Professor J. B. Disanayaka who teaches in the Department of Sinhala at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, studied archaeology at the University of Ceylon, Peradeniya, under its first Professor of Archaeology, Dr Senarat Paranavitana, who was mainly responsible for the restoration work at Mihintale.
As a student of archaeology, Professor Disanayaka participated in the excavations at the Citadel in Anuradhapura, under the guidance of Professor P. C. Sestieri, in September 1958. An year later he toured South India visiting places of archaeological interest such as Mahabalipuram and Kancipuram. |
