Dr Sengaiazhiyan K. Kunarasa was born in Jaffna in 1941. He graduated from the Peradeniya University and later obtained his Doctorate in Geography. He is a prolific writer and a well-known literary critic.
Dr Kunarasa is a seven-time recipient of the Shahithiya Academy Award for his contributions to literature. To his credit, he has thirty-seven novels, three historical treatises and many short stories. His collection of short stories entitled Iravu nerap payanikal and the novel Kaddaru have been translated into Sinhala. Another of his nove has been translated and published in English as The Beast.
A senior officer in the Sri Lanka Administrative Service, he is presently the Regional Commissioner (NEPC) of the Jaffna District. |
