Rajpal Kumar DE SILVA
Rajpal Kumar de Silva was educated at Royal College, Colombo, obtained his medical degree in 1956 at the University of Ceylon. He has lived and worked in England since 1964.
During this period spent abroad, he pursued his interest in Sri Lankan history and art.
His publications Early Prints of Ceylon 1800-1900 (1985), Illustrations and Views of Dutch Ceylon 1602-1796 together with W. G. M. Beumer (1988), and 19th Century Newspaper Engravings of Ceylon (1998), were the result of the knowledge and experience gained in these fields. The three books are comprehensive compilations of pre-20th century pictorial impressions of the island by foreign artists.
Now, whilst being retired from medical practice and partly domiciled here, in recognition of his contribution to Sri Lanka’s heritage, he was invited to co-author Maps and Plans of Dutch Ceylon.
